Yoga and Ski Retreats

Yoga Ski RetreatWow, can it be that the holidays are already here? We’ve finally been getting some snow here in Colorado which always makes Christmas feel that much more special. But the white stuff has put just one thing on my mind: skiing! It’s the reason I moved to Colorado 15 years ago, and it still puts a smile on my face all these years later. As does yoga!

Finding a retreat that combines time on the hill with time on the mat would be a dream! So as I bid adieu to you until January 1 (with a special surprise or two!), and set off to enjoy my time away from work and with the family, I am happy to welcome Matt Candelaria, a friend of mine from Gaiam TV, with this guest post.

Happy holidays, my friends! I hope you all get a little yoga as well as a little skiing or other outdoor playtime over the holiday break! xoxo Continue reading

Two Gifts that Give Back

farmer

Wow, it’s been a busy few weeks on the Soulicious Life for gifts! In addition to my 2012 Gift Guide featuring affordable fair trade, handmade and eco-friendly items, I’ve talked about ideas for thinking outside the proverbial gift box and gift giving etiquette tips.

You see, I was actually on top of shopping this year! (For the record, I also got holiday cards out this year. NOT that there is anything wrong with my Happy New Year cards of the past few years, but I am total relishing in the fact that I have my act together.)

I’m sure this is because K-Bear is getting older. But I digress.

With Christmas just a week-and-a-half away, this is my last post on holiday gift-giving. Two of my favorite national non-profit organizations have fabulous opportunities to donate to their cause in your loved ones name. Whether the guy or gal on your list is a foodie, environmentalist, animal lover, or child advocate there is a donation ready to melt their heart while helping to make the world a better place. Share Your Diet/Fitness Ideas and #Win a Slow Cooker!

It’s no secret that I believe living a soulicious life involves nourishing your body. Staying active and eating well should be priorities in life, no?

SlimKicker is a healthy living/fitness app that turns healthy habits into 7-30 day challenges. This level-up, points-based game puts the emphasis on learning proper nutrition, portion control and other habits that participants can stick with for the long run.

Because the SlimKicker team realizes that fun and games aren’t enough, they also provide ongoing support with personalized advice, as well as tools such as calorie counter and fitness tracker. It’s a great way for folks to interact with experts and stay motivated while developing healthier, life-long habits.

For example, users can pledge to give up soda for a month or use their slow cooker once a week. We know all about the latter as we are (or are trying to be) Slow Cooker Savvy around here, right? Which brings me to…

Conquering versus Recovering

I’ve had a few questions lately about how PT is progressing for me, what kind of exercises they have me doing now, etc. Well, last week my physical therapist sent me a new workout, and I was totally excited to get it in a new online format that not only illustrates the exercises, but also animates them with step-by-step, printable instructions. Super cool, and helpful too!

I thought some of you might enjoy seeing exactly what kind of torture strengthening moves Brad is putting me through these few weeks.

I count a total of 150 lunges. On both sides.  Continue reading
